Welcome back Year 1 and 2!
We hope that you have had a lovely half term! We are all sad that we are still not together in class but we will be checking in with you on a daily basis and will send you work to be getting on with at home. The most important thing is that we are all safe.
Our current topic is The 4 Peaks- We will be linking our History and Geography lessons to this and are looking forward to where this topic takes us!

The afternoon sessions will be based on quizzes (Year 1 1:30 and Year 2 1:40 Monday, Wednesday Thursday and then both year groups at 1:30 on a Friday). There will be no afternoon Zoom on a Tuesday as this is our well-being afternoon. The links for these will be updated on Class Dojo in a parent message and on the class story.

Forest School.
All the Key Stage 1 children will have the chance to take part in weekly Forest School sessions in our special area at Disley Primary School. The sessions will provide the opportunity for children to learn about nature, mindfulness, play team games, build shelters, craft activities etc. It will also help the children to develop emotional skills such as resilience, creativity, problem solving, communication and empathy. All this will take place outdoors and in all weather. With this in mind we would like your child to bring to school a waterproof coat, waterproof trousers and wellies. When it gets colder, gloves and hats will also been needed. They can also come to school wearing suitable outdoor clothing e.g. joggers, fleeces etc.
Recently the children learnt about bird nests and had to chance to make one out of the natural materials they could find. They also learnt about the different trees we have and played a game of hide and seek using a teddy. We have also learnt facts about hedgehogs and the children played a game where they had to pretend to be a hedgehog hibernating. Then had the chance to make a hedgehog picture using leaves and planted a daffodil bulb. The children have had a great time making potions in our mud kitchen and wands using sticks and leaves. They also laid down on the ground and made leaf angels and helped to build a bug hotel.

Phonics
Look carefully at all of the phonics sounds that we will be working on throughout the year.
They are in phase order and the more you work on these sounds the better your reading, spelling and writing will become.
There are many books that the children can work through.
Year 2 can find some recommended books here:

Reminder time...
OTIS is on Wednesday and your second PE session is either on Monday (Blue Class), Tuesday (Red Class), or Thursday(Yellow Class) You should come to school in your PE kit on these days.
Don't forget to bring your water bottle into school each day and remember to sip lots of water throughout the day. This will help to keep you healthy and will also help you to concentrate with your work.
Also, please remember to bring your book bag with your reading book in each day.
There are many websites which are useful for phonics activities and early Mathematics. Please have a look at some and share these with your children.
