Reception (2023-24)

Hello and welcome to our Reception class page!

Welcome back everyone! We hope that you all had a wonderful half-term holiday, and a well-deserved rest. We are looking forward to our new half-term and our exciting new topic!

This half-term, our new topic will be ‘People Who Help Us.’ Throughout this topic, we will be learning all about the different jobs that people do. We will look at roles within our community and think about which people are there to help us now, as well as in the future. We will also be thinking about what we might like to do when we are older, taking inspiration from all of the professions we have been exploring. These different professions and services will also inspire our indoor and outdoor provision.

This term, we will be inviting different members of the community into school to share their roles with us. We will be learning about what they do every day and learn about any equipment/vehicles they need for their job. We will also be discussing what kind of skills they use in their roles. This term will have a big focus on health and hygiene, and we will be looking at different people that help us to stay strong and healthy! We will also be learning about how to take responsibility for our oral health in our PSHE lessons.

In Literacy, we will be reading a range of fiction and non-fiction texts based around our topic. We will continue to practise our letter formations and will be writing short sentences and captions. We are also looking forward to our trip to the Post Office where we will be posting letters home! We will teach lots of new vocabulary this half-term, including topic specific vocabulary. We will also learn about what a question is (rather than a statement) and discuss ideas of questions that we would like to ask our visitors. We will be also be learning lots of new phonemes in our Phonics lessons to help with our reading and writing.

In Maths, we will be playing lots of counting games and exploring numbers to 10 in detail. We will continue to practise our doubling facts, number bonds to 5 and will begin to learn number bonds to 10. We will also continue to learn how to write addition/subtraction number sentences using various different strategies/resources including part-whole models, ten frames, Numicon and Multilink!
