Year 5/6N

Picture 1

Welcome back to all of our Year 5 and 6s.

We hope you had an enjoyable Christmas and New Year.

This term, we will be using a range of stimuli to produce a variety of writing. We will be using the video Alma (see video below) to create a dual perspective narrative. We will also be using the text 'Rose Blanche' to write speeches and a variety of narrative. We will be recapping the use of the different types of punctuation taught at KS2 and looking at a variety of techniques to build cohesion, tension and atmosphere.

A curious girl, Alma, stumbles upon a shop she has never seen before; little does she know, there is an unexpected surprise waiting for her....

Please find the Maths Yearly Overviews for Years 5 and 6 below, highlighting the objectives that they will be covering:

Our science topic this term is: Animals (including humans). We will be focusing on the following points:

•identify and name the main parts of the human circulatory system, and describe the functions of the heart, blood vessels and blood

•recognise the impact of diet, exercise, drugs and lifestyle on the way their bodies function

•describe the ways in which nutrients and water are transported within animals, including humans

PE days are on a Monday and Wednesday, please ensure your child has their kit in school on these days. Please ensure that their kits are appropriate for indoor and outdoor PE. We also take part in the Daily Mile, so the children need their trainers on a daily basis.

Our topic for this term is World War 2.

We will be looking into the events leading up to and during World War 2, with a focus on chronology.

We will also be looking at: the countries that were involved, the roles of men and women, rationing, significant battles and the turning point.
